Literature Text

The moth woman wakes on the forest floor

She hasn't moved a step from where Navi led her before.

Her leg is not lost, but she looks down and sees

In her bloody hand the imprint of a rose-shaped key.

"It's only as real as you let it be."

Dercas utters quietly.

Allele, mute, stands up as she sees nearby

The prone bodies of her foes - how, why?

"They couldn't escape what they were born to be.

They are doomed to be trapped in their own memories."

Allele is still quiet, but asks one word.

"Why?"

The fox looks away, but she has heard.

"I suppose you have the right to know

Why things in the forest are they way they're so.

Well, you've seen it watch, you've seen it hear.

It feeds on flesh, it feeds on fear.

You've heard its voice

You've seen the bones

You feel its presence when alone

You once asked me what's sacred

You might find it odd

You're inside it- a living forest god."

The demon walks away, leaving her stunned

The hybrid wanders to the otherwordly ones

She sits beside them - but then cries in rage

The vines are trying to take them away!

She slashes and hacks til she can do no more

Then collapses to the forest floor.

She doesn't want to be alone

She curls up close to her foes who lie prone.

She sings a song she knows they cannot hear

Her sole comfort among weariness and fear.

"And maybe, someday, we'll figure all this out

It'll all be better all somehow

Someday."

I contemplated having Allele sing a sadder song, then I realized that was a bit too angsty even for this whole angst-ridden round. I do have standards. They are low, but they exist.

I had no idea I would make it to semi-finals, and I DEFINITELY had no idea I'd be writing rounds entirely in rhyme when I first started. I also had no idea I would be fighting Gaby again, but Gaby, you've been a wonderful two-time opponent.

It's been a very fun ride and I've enjoyed myself immensely. Whether it continues or not, I hope my entries have been amusing or interesting in some way. I'm still trying to improve (I will be editing and tweaking up until the deadline, trust me) but I'm glad that despite setbacks I've managed to finish this thing.

You reap what you sow, even when you are no longer blind.
