The giant lizard lay in wait,
Washing off his sticky claws
Cooling water soothed his wounds
He felt more hope about his fate.
He peered from the wet embrace
Gold eyes blinked on an azure face
Squinting to make out his foe.
His poor sight saw nothing yet
Would his plan cause him regret?
He shouted loud and deep:
“Opponent! Come forth and battle me!”
Allele's antennae twitched as she vaguely heard
What must be this Al'tun's words.
“You are very rude, you know!
Heathen creature, damnably slow!
How do you expect a wish?
You show as much drive as a fish!”
The warrior growled in his place
Yet stayed put and kept face.
Allele drew closer, closer still
“Forest, this can't be your will!”
“What? It is? I guess...I see...”
Al'tun's head raised in curiosity.
Was it a mad creature he faced?
He'd seen such in the war – a sad waste.
The hybrid murmured as she drew near
Words spoken with a rare thing: fear.
“The gods' chosen, they rose again
Sent out from a reaper's den...”
The verse cut short; memories came.
Breathing deep from all her pores
She swore to think of failed friends no more.
The hybrid saw that she'd stepped in some sap.
She clawed at it, but it held fast.
Antennae laid back, wings shuffling
How to stop this pestilent cling?
She scuffed her hooves upon the ground
But only more clinging liquid was bound.
Blue eyes flicked from side to side
Seeing what was now narrow that had been wide.
Briar walls grew mere feet away.
Leaving one remaining course
All others blocked, all others gone
Only one way to go on.
“You'll move a little closer
But the moving isn't over.”
Muttered words of insanity.
Or perhaps that was how
It seemed to be.
